The first kick off party of expace#005/ summer events!! 2004 presents "in/ out: Art:Fashion Show" with the performance of 12 artists. Challenging the boundary between art and fashion, each artist will show up in front of audiences holding their artworks and walking on a catwalk. The performance of artists' holding their works and hanging them on a wall shows the whole art installation process as an entertainment, borrowing a spectacular fashion show environment. It questions what's art and what's fashion bridging the relationship between artists and audiences. The show also comprises of live painting by Naoko Sumi and Music by DJ Scott. The final results of the show will last as an eclectic group exhibition of random mediums with the documentation of the fashion show happenings for the following two weeks.
Phase 2: HAAK "Getting to Know Your Stranger!" 08/6-08/19/2004
Opening Reception: 08/06/2004 Fri. 7pm - 11pm
Artists: Cecily Andersen + a stranger
Brieana Ruais + a stranger
Meryl O'Connor + a stranger
Leah Farrell + a stranger
Anonymous art collective, HAAK (Happy Anarchist Adventure Kids), will present a project "Getting to Know Your Strangers!" Through several stages of the project, each of the four primary artists locates a "stranger" (def: someone with whom they are not acquainted, located through advertising, postings, networking or other means.) The pair then engages in a short acquaintance period lasting 11 days in the 2nd stage. A series of outlined activities to this effect are performed and documented. Once the "stranger" and the artist complete Stage 2 they cease communication. Using the following three weeks both the artist and the "stranger" create pieces that reflect their process and experience with the project. The three weeks conclude with the hanging of the show, which will include the individual documentation and final work of the eight participants. The project is structured to be impersonal at the beginning and progressively becomes intimate, allowing for unique relationships to develop. How well does this reflect the reality of interpersonal acquaintance in New York City?
