Brooklyn Ð About Glamour Gallery is pleased to present a three-person show by artists, Auguste Garufi, Mitsuko Katsura and Kristin Lynn Smith. The exhibition will be comprised of mixed media sculptures, paintings and drawings that seek to represent alternative human conditions in relation to the nature and the universe.
Auguste GarufiÕs work represents his own mythology of the universe by appropriating the interconnected elements in our world. Repetitive subjects of faces, hands, birds and figures loose their forms and are to be in harmony with the nature. He gives us several small and medium size sculptures along with a painting from one of his face series.
Kristin Lynn Smith often works on two or more layers, combining several different mediums to create one linked image. In her work, she usually discusses the similarity and difference of opposite conditions such as illness/ recovery, loneliness/ togetherness, and dreams/ reality. Simplifying the elements of the figure, her work reveals sensibility of the existence. She will present several drawings and one of her paintings for this exhibition.
Mitsuko Katsura will present 6 polyester sculptures for the exhibition. Her work concentrates on visualizing invisible negative space around the subject matter. She distorts lines and surfaces of the human figure to emphasize the existence of the space around it. Boundary in-between is about to disappear and combined with intangible blank area. She challenges the audience to see what they see, by representing what they do not see.
